Love your heart, keep your cardiovascular system healthy
It goes without saying that your heart and the vessels that transport blood around your body are vital to wellbeing. There is no great mystery about what keeps your heart healthy – a balanced diet featuring abundant fruit and vegetables, a decent amount of physical activity and enough sleep are a good start. But many of us have over-indulged, under-exercised, smoked or ignored the warning signs and now need extra support to stay healthy.
When we look at the cellular level, it is the harmful effects of free radicals and oxidative stress that starts the ball rolling with many cardiac problems. Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that when produced in excess result in oxidative damage to basically all biological tissue.
Another risk factor is high cholesterol, and in particular the LDL-cholesterol also known as ‘bad’ cholesterol. In and of itself, LDL-cholesterol is not dangerous. It only becomes dangerous when it is oxidized by free radicals, changing it into oxidised LDL-cholesterol.
It’s good to know that there are simple steps you can take to support a healthier heart. Many people start taking fish oils and vitamins. Those are good, but on their own, they’re not the solution. Supplements are just one very useful tool in the toolbox, alongside exercise and a good diet.
For those looking for extra support from dietary supplements, I recently formulated a new cardiac support product, designed expressly for improving and supporting cardiac health.
Supreme Health Advanced Cardiac Support is based on clinical studies to support heart health. It’s unique, because it combines the synergistic power of pure, natural ingredients to support cardiovascular health and antioxidant protection, by supporting healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Supreme Health Advanced Cardiac Support contains the super antioxidant astaxanthin, which grabs all the free radicals before they can cause inflammation and oxidation of the cholesterol.
Astaxanthin is the strongest natural antioxidant in the world. It is the bright orange-red pigment which gives salmon, krill, shrimp and even pink flamingos their bright distinctive colour. These creatures eat the algae that produces astaxanthin. Don’t worry, Supreme Health is not in the practice of sacrificing beautiful pink flamingos, or any other animals for that matter. AstaSupreme goes straight to the source and grows the algae that produce astaxanthin. The algae are grown in a fully enclosed world-class facility, right here in New Zealand. Supreme Health astaxanthin is of the highest quality and purity, ensuring maximum health benefits.
Supreme Health Advanced Cardiac Support contains other natural ingredients which are known to support heart health, Omega 3 (fish oils), CoQ10, Vitamin E and Vitamin D.
The formula is a vital tool to enhance your chances of getting back on the road to having good heart health.
I have often been asked to clarify whether astaxanthin affects anticoagulants, namely Warfarin.
Astaxanthin does not contain vitamin K and therefore does not compete with warfarin to inhibit the vitamin K-dependent clotting factors.
Astaxanthin has an excellent safety profile and has been safely consumed by millions of people world-wide in foodstuffs and in supplement form. There have been hundreds of clinical studies on astaxanthin and no reported increase in susceptibility to bleeding or reported serious side effects.
As always, we advise you should check with your physician before taking any supplements and this also applies to astaxanthin. Therefore, for those patients taking anticoagulants, it is advised that they should monitor their INR and prothrombin time whenever taking nutritional supplements.
